| Data Infrastructure (DI) for Hong Kong Water Supplies Department New! The Water Supplies Department (WSD) is responsible for providing adequate and satisfactory supply of fresh and salt water to Hong Kong's households and industries. Previously WSD had a number of separate computer systems helping control and maintain the water supply. However, WSD needed to integrate these systems and have a standard for operational data sources. So, WSD engaged Azeus to develop a Data Infrastructure, which is effectively an integrated information repository and portal or internal web facility providing a single source of the operational data to facilitate sharing and utilization of spatial data like digital maps. The project scope covered the development of a Geographic Information System (GIS) Portal, Maintenance Works Management System, and a web-based ad hoc query tool.
The DI enabled WSD to have a single point of access and retrieval of standard data. The WSD Data Infrastructure also enhanced capabilities to analyze operational data. It also allowed better utilization of the spatial data, which is critical to WSD in providing services to the public. |
